Job Overview: The position of Senior Hydrogeologist is crucial for the implementation of UNESCO's projects related to water resources management, particularly in the context of the GEF/FAO project aimed at enhancing sustainability in the Transboundary Cambodia–Mekong River Delta Aquifer. The consultant will provide technical support and expertise to ensure the successful operationalization of various components of the project. This includes overseeing the preparation of the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), developing concept notes, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Hydrogeologist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: 1) Providing technical expertise for the operationalization of UNESCO’s components under the GEF/FAO project, including guiding the TDA preparation process, consolidating contributions into a final report, and developing knowledge management strategies. 2) Supporting resource mobilization activities by preparing project proposals and concept notes for various aquifer projects. 3) Assisting in the preparation and execution of international events related to coastal aquifers, including creating presentations and program materials. 4) Contributing to the dissemination of project results and developing communication plans to engage target groups effectively. 5) Integrating gender perspectives into all activities and ensuring inclusive participation from diverse stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Water Sciences, Water Management, Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences, or related fields. A PhD in these areas is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in water sciences, particularly in aquifer management and governance, with a focus on transboundary contexts. Experience with GEF projects and knowledge of the Mekong and Mediterranean regions are highly desirable. Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and communication tools.
