Job Overview: The Programme SupportIntern will play a crucial role in supporting the execution of the Jamaica Resilient Recovery Initiative (JARRI), working directly with the Programme Analyst for Social Resilience. The intern will be involved in the day-to-day implementation of recovery activities, ensuring that projects such as solar deployment, debris clearance, and technical advisory support are delivered effectively to target communities. This position requires a proactive approach to partnership building, knowledge management, and logistical coordination, contributing to the overall success of the recovery initiative. The intern will also assist in documenting project impacts and preparing materials for donor dialogues, which are essential for securing ongoing funding and support for recovery efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Programme Analyst - Social Resilience. Key duties include:
Project Implementation & Monitoring: Assist in the daily implementation of JARRI components, ensuring that recovery activities align with expected results and work plans.
Partnership Development: Help build and maintain strategic partnerships with various organizations and foundations, contributing to resource mobilization proposals and documenting project impacts.
Knowledge Management: Systematically document and disseminate recovery insights, capturing best practices in areas such as resilient construction and community-led livelihoods.
Logistics & Field Coordination: Support logistical arrangements for meetings and workshops with stakeholders.
Reporting & Data Management: Maintain JARRI-specific records, assist in drafting progress reports, and ensure accurate beneficiary selection lists for cash for work and debris management programs.
Ad-Hoc Support: Provide assistance with other tasks related to the Hurricane Melissa recovery portfolio as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational, time management, and communication skills, with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to draft memos and conduct presentations. Candidates should demonstrate integrity, impartiality, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. Strong research, reporting, and writing skills are required, along with interpersonal skills and a service-oriented mindset. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-national environment are also important. A results-driven attitude and openness to feedback are essential, as well as creative thinking and initiative.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a background in Social Sciences, Development Practice/Studies, or related fields. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or have graduated within the past year and be available to commence the internship shortly after graduation.
Experience: Candidates should have experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and familiarity with web-based applications. Previous experience in a related field or internship is advantageous but not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is required. Proficiency in other UN languages is considered a strong asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse work environment.
Additional Notes: The internship is a full-time position (40 hours per week) and can be conducted either virtually or at the UNDP Jamaica Multi-Country Office in Kingston. Interns may receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses, provided they are not financially supported by any institution or program. Interns are responsible for securing their own medical insurance and must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan. The internship does not guarantee employment with UNDP, and interns are not eligible to apply for any positions during their internship. They are expected to provide their own laptop, while internet access and printing facilities will be available at UNDP.
