The Operations Intern position at UNDP Mongolia is designed for motivated and client-oriented individuals who are eager to support the Country Office in delivering integrated operational services that facilitate effective programme implementation. The Operations function is crucial for ensuring the smooth, compliant, and efficient functioning of the office, providing essential support to programme and project teams. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, multicultural environment, engaging in a variety of operational and administrative processes. This role is particularly suited for candidates interested in developing practical skills in operations and understanding how coordinated support services underpin the delivery of development results. Interns will be involved in routine office operations and will also support high-level initiatives and events, including UNDP’s engagement in significant national and international platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operations Intern will work under the overall supervision of a designated supervisor and will provide cross-cutting support to the Country Office’s operational functions. Key responsibilities include:

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme, being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or having recently graduated with a relevant university degree. Candidates should ideally have a background in fields such as Social Sciences, Business Management, Public Administration, or International Relations, which are pertinent to the operational and administrative functions of the UNDP.
Experience:
While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, any experience working in operations and administrative areas is highly desired. This could include internships, volunteer work, or relevant extracurricular activities that demonstrate an interest in international development and skills in administrative and operational processes.
Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are excellent command of English and Mongolian, both oral and written. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and documentation within the UNDP and with various stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This internship assignment can also be completed as part of national service obligations or a postgraduate professional traineeship program. UNDP will provide a stipend in the monthly amount of USD 223.07 (in-person rate) in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy. Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or their sponsoring entity. Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes. Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship. Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity. Selected interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/or graduation, medical/health and life/accident insurance, valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out, and provide insurance documentary proof at the time of their selection. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies, and therefore, there should be no expectation and guarantee of employment at the end of an internship.

- Providing operational and logistical support to high-level events and initiatives, including preparations for the COP17 Presidential Event hosted in Mongolia, and UNDP’s related programme and coordination efforts.
- Supporting coordination efforts related to inter-agency collaboration and partner engagement during major national and international events, ensuring timely administrative follow-up and information flow.
- Assisting in maintaining office records, documentation, and filing systems (both physical and digital) in line with corporate requirements, including proper archiving and knowledge management.
- Providing general administrative and logistical support to ensure smooth day-to-day office operations.
- Supporting the preparation, processing, and follow-up of operational documentation, including payments, requests, and other administrative actions, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and procedures.
- Assisting in organizing meetings, workshops, trainings, and events, including coordination of logistics, preparation of materials, and documentation.
- Supporting travel-related processes, including arrangements, documentation, and administrative follow-up.
- Contributing to the management of office assets, inventory, and related records, including tracking, tagging, and monitoring movements.
- Assisting in coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, service providers, and partners, and supporting basic information gathering and follow-ups as needed. 1
- Providing support to staff-related administrative processes, including onboarding, separation, and maintenance of relevant records and documentation. 1
- Assisting in tracking and organizing operational data, records, and reports to support transparency and efficiency. 1
- Performing any other operational, administrative, or coordination tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation.
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. The field of study should be in Social Sciences, Business Management, Public Administration, International Relations, or other relevant fields.
