UNDP Egypt is currently establishing an internship roster for 2025, aiming to provide valuable exposure to high-level international development processes and administrative functions.
Job Overview: The intern will provide essential front office support to the Resident Representative's office, assisting with a variety of administrative tasks, managing communications, and facilitating interactions with diverse stakeholders. This position is designed to offer interns valuable exposure to the workings of international development processes and administrative functions within a high-level office. The intern will be involved in a portfolio approach that accommodates changing business needs and leverages linkages across interventions to achieve strategic goals. Interns will gain insights into the interconnected nature of development risks and crises, and they will be expected to work collaboratively across various issues, units, functions, teams, and projects. This role is crucial for enhancing horizontal collaboration within the organization and supporting the delivery of UNDP's mandate in Egypt and the broader Arab region.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Front Desk Management: Provide effective front-desk service, manage telephone communication services, assist staff with long-distance calls, maintain a personnel telephone list, greet visitors, and respond to their queries effectively. 2) Administrative Support: Coordinate schedules, appointments, and meetings for the Resident Representative, manage and organize official correspondence and documentation, and support travel arrangements and logistics for missions and meetings. 3) Communication Facilitation: Ensure effective communication flow within the office and with external partners, assist in preparing communication materials and reports, and help maintain filing and record-keeping systems for correspondence and documents. 4) Policy and Strategy Advice and Development: Prepare policy briefs, sector scans, and status papers on development challenges based on desk review studies and analysis for evidence-based advocacy and policy development. Assist in the development of new or ongoing initiatives, document good practices, prepare reports on UNDP’s programmatic support, support applied research, data collection, and engagement with private sector stakeholders. The intern may also perform other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: (a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent); (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation; (d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, the ability to write clearly and concisely, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work harmoniously with staff members from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. A good command of information and communication technology is also required, along with some knowledge of the Arab region being helpful.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme, being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or having recently graduated with a university degree. The internship is designed for individuals who are pursuing or have completed higher education, ensuring that candidates have a solid academic foundation to support their work within the UNDP.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position is primarily focused on the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Candidates should demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work well with colleagues from various backgrounds. While specific prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in the development field or related areas will be advantageous. Familiarity with the Arab region and its development challenges will also be beneficial for candidates.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this internship position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it would enhance communication and engagement with local stakeholders and partners in the region.
Additional Notes: Interns are responsible for their own expenses, including travel, visas, accommodation, and living costs. They must secure adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship and provide self-certification of good health prior to starting. UNDP will not reimburse medical insurance costs. Selected candidates for in-person internships must show proof of valid medical insurance for the duty station. The internship is initially for a period of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and office needs. UNDP emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
