Job Overview:
The Education Specialist position at UNICEF involves supporting the development and management of education programs within India. Under the guidance of the Chief of Field Office and technical guidance from the Chief Education, the Specialist will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating education programs/projects. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Education Specialist will manage and oversee the implementation of education programs, ensuring they align with UNICEF's goals and standards. Responsibilities include developing program strategies, monitoring progress, evaluating outcomes, and reporting on the effectiveness of education initiatives. The Specialist will provide technical guidance throughout the programming process, facilitate partnerships, and advocate for education priorities with government officials. Additionally, the role involves drafting high-quality analytical papers, policy briefs, and program documents, as well as leveraging partnerships and financing to scale programs. The Specialist will also engage in capacity building and knowledge sharing among stakeholders to enhance education delivery and outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in education, economics, psychology, or a related technical field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in education planning, management, or research is required, with a strong background in results-based management approaches. Experience in policy dialogue, advocacy, and drafting educational documents is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to influence education priorities at senior government levels and have experience working on convergent approaches across various sectors such as health, nutrition, and child protection.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in education, economics, psychology, or another relevant technical field is required for this position. UNICEF only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in education-related fields, particularly in planning, management, and research. Candidates should have a proven track record of translating analytical evidence into policy and advocacy, as well as experience in drafting high-quality educational documents and influencing government priorities.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for the position.
Additional Notes:
This position is based in Mumbai and Gandhinagar, India, and is open to Indian Nationals or internal candidates with a valid work permit for India. The selected applicant will receive an initial fixed-term contract of two years for Gandhinagar and one year for Mumbai, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
