Job Overview:
The Supply and logistics-manager" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Manager position is critical within the Somalia Country Office, which operates in a complex humanitarian context characterized by significant logistical challenges. The role involves managing supply chains for a medium to large-sized country office and emergency response operations. The incumbent will oversee various supply chain operations, including planning, procurement, customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution. This position requires collaboration with program sections to define supply interventions that meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children. The manager will also provide strategic technical and advisory support to governments and partners on resilient and innovative supply chain management solutions, particularly in fragile operating environments. The role is essential for ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of essential supplies and supporting Somalia's long-term stability and humanitarian response efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Management of the Supply Section: Establish annual work plans, set priorities, targets, and performance indicators; monitor progress to ensure results meet timelines and standards. Supervise and coach staff, ensuring timely performance management and promoting knowledge sharing with the Supply Division and global supply community. Ensure operational capacity for CO supply chains, including appropriate staffing and timely recruitment.
  • Supply Chain Service Delivery and Emergency Response: Contribute to Country Programme planning; advise on supply requirements; ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of supply chain operations. Analyze supply spend and develop procurement strategies. Ensure timely customs clearance and establish warehousing and transport systems.
  • Collaboration with Programme and Implementing Partners: Collaborate with program sections in design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of supply components. Maintain partnerships with Government, UN agencies, and counterparts for coordinated supply and logistics.
  • Technical and Advisory Support to Government/National Systems: Lead supply chain strengthening and change management initiatives with governments and partners.
  • Innovation, Products and Markets: Support pilots and rollout of new products and services; promote innovation and best practices in supply chain management.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Contract/Commercial Law, International Development, Health, or a related social science field. A Bachelor’s degree combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Candidates must have at least 8 years of relevant work experience at national and international levels in supply, logistics, procurement, and related fields. Strong understanding of development and humanitarian operations is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or International Development. A Bachelor’s degree may be accepted with additional relevant work experience.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in supply chain management, logistics, and procurement, particularly in fragile and high-risk contexts. Experience in emergency logistics and humanitarian operations is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is desirable.
