Job Overview: The Area Coordination Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the mobilization and placement of UN Volunteers within UN Agencies and partner entities at the country level. Reporting to the Country Coordinator and under the guidance of the Regional Manager, the assistant is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and satisfaction with volunteer services. The position requires regular interaction with UN personnel at various levels and emphasizes the importance of horizontal collaboration across multiple units and functions within UNV. The assistant will also contribute to business intelligence efforts, support talent acquisition, and enhance the volunteer experience, all while ensuring the duty of care for volunteers in the assigned area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in mobilizing volunteers and developing partnerships by supporting the identification and cultivation of strategic partnerships with UN Agencies and Host Entities. This includes managing key accounts, tracking client satisfaction, and ensuring effective collaboration.
Contribute to business intelligence efforts by gathering information on UN programming frameworks and keeping the Country Coordinator informed of changes in the UN operating environment.
Support talent acquisition by attracting qualified local talent and identifying effective sourcing channels for UNV assignments.
Enhance the volunteer experience by providing support during onboarding, responding to inquiries, and organizing appreciation initiatives.
Support the duty of care for UN Volunteers by liaising with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal points, providing timely assistance during emergencies, and ensuring volunteers have access to necessary resources and information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong relationship management skills, the ability to engage with diverse partners, and a results-oriented mindset. Knowledge of the UN system and relevant theories, concepts, and methodologies is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate customer satisfaction skills, be able to anticipate client needs, and have the ability to integrate the capacities of the UN system into their work. Additionally, candidates should have strong research skills and the ability to generate useful knowledge relevant to the context.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to international development, social sciences, or a similar discipline. Advanced degrees may be preferred depending on the specific requirements of the position.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in partnership management, volunteer mobilization, or a related field. Experience working with UN agencies or in a similar international context is highly desirable. Familiarity with volunteer management processes and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional UN languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset. Candidates should also be able to communicate effectively in the local language, which is Romanian, to facilitate interactions with local partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer assignment, not employment, and is based in Chisinau, Moldova. The assignment is full-time with the possibility of extension based on operational needs and performance. UN Volunteers will receive a monthly living allowance, entry lump sum, and exit allowance upon successful completion of the contract. Health and life insurance coverage is provided for the duration of the assignment. Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials.
