Job Overview: The Mechanical engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Engineer will join a specialized team focused on advanced cryogenic cooling and measurement techniques. This role is pivotal in the daily operations of the Cryolab, a unique research facility that operates at extremely low temperatures, down to 50 mK. The engineer will be responsible for the development, operation, and technical oversight of cryogenic test stands, ensuring they meet user needs and technical specifications. The position requires close collaboration with users and colleagues to translate operational principles into effective thermodynamic and mechanical design solutions. The engineer will also coordinate the production of these test stands, manage Cryolab activities, and provide support to users in the operation of test facilities, emphasizing thermodynamics and low-temperature instrumentation. Additionally, the role involves preparing technical documentation and contributing to safety training related to cryogenic operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop operational principles for cryogenic test stands based on user requirements and technical specifications.
Collaborate with the team to create thermodynamic and mechanical design solutions.
Oversee the production of test stands, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
Organize and prioritize Cryolab activities based on operational needs and resource availability.
Provide daily guidance to Cryolab users on thermodynamics, low-temperature instrumentation, and operational procedures.
Monitor the performance of active test stations and engage with users to analyze results.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, operating procedures, and records.
Act as the safety contact for the Cryolab's buildings and activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanics, Electromechanics, Instrumentation, or a related field. They should have a solid understanding of cryogenic systems and experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of complex mechanical installations. Proficiency in preparing technical documentation and operating procedures is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge of cryogenic fluid properties, heat transfer techniques, and low-temperature instrumentation.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanics, Electromechanics, Instrumentation, or a closely related field is required. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: Candidates should have practical experience in cryogenic systems, including the design and commissioning of mechanical installations. Experience in preparing technical documentation and operating procedures is also necessary. Familiarity with thermodynamics and low-temperature instrumentation is highly valued.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the organization.
Additional Notes: This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract. The role requires full-time onsite work, with a standard working hours of 40 hours per week. Candidates must be prepared for potential work in radiation areas, underground installations, and may need to work nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required.
