Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate Change Division of the CTCN Secretariat, specifically focusing on communications and knowledge management for the ICS Programme. This position involves developing and updating dashboards, coordinating the dissemination of project-related materials such as fact sheets, blogs, and videos, and drafting content for the CTCN website. The consultant will also contribute to the creation of reports and other knowledge products, ensuring effective communication of the CTCN's activities and achievements. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UNEP's Climate Change communications team, to enhance the visibility and impact of CTCN's work. The consultant will be expected to manage short-term experts and consultants for specific communications products, ensuring high-quality outputs that align with the organization's goals. Overall, this position is integral to advancing CTCN's mission of promoting climate technology solutions and fostering knowledge sharing among stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Supporting the development and updating of the ICS Programme dashboards to track progress and outcomes.
  • Coordinating the delivery and dissemination of project and technology fact sheets to ensure stakeholders are informed about the ICS Programme.
  • Overseeing the creation and distribution of blogs and videos that highlight CTCN's technical assistance under the EC ICS programme.
  • Drafting engaging content for the CTCN website and stories that showcase the organization's EC ICS activities.
  • Providing input for the CTCN newsletter to keep stakeholders updated on the programme's developments.
  • Contributing to the preparation of EC ICS Programme reports and other knowledge products that document the programme's impact.
  • Organizing and coordinating workshops, side-events, and exhibitions related to the EC ICS Programme.
  • Acting as the primary contact for UNEP’s Climate Change communications team, facilitating collaboration and information sharing.
  • Supporting the analysis and synthesis of communications outputs across CTCN programmes to enhance overall communication strategies. 1
  • Assisting in the planning and organization of CTCN events, including creating messaging, visual assets, and managing media interactions. 1
  • Performing other tasks as requested by the Director of the CTCN, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters’ degree or equivalent) in communications, international relations, public relations, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of practical experience in communications, outreach, social media/web content creation, event planning, and media relations, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental issues, is required. Experience working for a UN or multilateral organization is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UNFCCC activities. Candidates should demonstrate strong planning and prioritization skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure, and excellent communication skills, particularly in a multicultural workplace. The ability to synthesize complex information into clear and structured content is essential.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or equivalent, in a relevant field such as communications, international relations, or public relations. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate change communications and the necessary skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of 10 years of practical experience in communications and outreach, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental issues. This experience should include working with social media, creating web content, drafting articles and outreach materials, planning events, and managing media relations. Experience in global communications and familiarity with UN or multilateral organizations will be advantageous, as will an understanding of UNFCCC activities.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for drafting content, engaging with stakeholders, and effectively communicating CTCN's messages. While English is the primary language required, additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
