Job Overview: The Field Office Manager position is crucial for the UNDP's response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, particularly in the context of the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Office Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Building effective partnerships with development actors, government officials, civil society, and stakeholders at both provincial and local levels.
Participating in meetings with local authorities and partners to provide updates on UNDP activities.
Coordinating UNDP projects to ensure integration and synergy, maximizing results and fostering a learning environment.
Ensuring quality assurance of UNDP projects by collecting and verifying data from beneficiaries and integrating cross-cutting issues into project planning.
Supporting the country office in gathering relevant socio-economic and political data for project planning and evaluation.
Managing day-to-day administration and financial activities of the field office, ensuring fiduciary accountability.
Overseeing the performance of field office staff and managing work planning and delivery.
Acting as a focal point for good practices and lessons learned, contributing to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Development, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other relevant fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be considered. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in management advisory services, project design, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as team management. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages is essential, along with experience in web-based management systems. Desired skills include experience in fragile and conflict settings, working with national counterparts, and managing partnerships with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as International Development, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or Business Administration. Candidates with a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) and additional qualifying experience will also be considered. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of development work in challenging environments like Sudan.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. This experience should be at the national or international level and involve providing management advisory services, as well as hands-on experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects. Candidates should also have experience in managing teams and working in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with various stakeholders, including local authorities, partners, and beneficiaries. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
