Job Overview: The Protection Assistant (Psycho-Social Support Assistant) plays a crucial role within the DRC Protection Team, working under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager. This position is designed to provide essential psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support to individuals and communities affected by conflict. The Protection Assistant will engage closely with individuals, families, and communities to address their emotional, social, and mental health needs, facilitating recovery processes and fostering resilience. The role requires regular travel to field locations, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and support. The Protection Assistant will conduct group psychosocial support sessions aimed at promoting peer support, socialization, and effective coping strategies. Additionally, the assistant will be responsible for developing and delivering psychoeducational sessions on various psychosocial topics, collaborating with other service providers, and facilitating community participation in psychosocial activities. This position is integral to enhancing access to psychosocial support at the community level and requires a proactive approach to identifying and utilizing local resources.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Assistant (Psycho-Social Support Assistant) will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting group psychosocial support sessions to foster peer support and socialization; developing and delivering psychoeducational sessions on topics such as stress management and coping skills; collaborating with healthcare and social workers to make appropriate referrals; facilitating community engagement in psychosocial support activities; identifying and supporting local resources to enhance access to psychosocial support; participating in capacity-building sessions; and contributing to the development and regular updating of a service mapping system that details available services in DRC's areas of operation. The assistant will also be expected to maintain high professional ethics and confidentiality while working with vulnerable populations.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a higher education degree in psychology or social work. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to discuss sensitive topics and work effectively with individuals affected by conflict. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the role involves engaging with vulnerable individuals and diverse stakeholders. Candidates should also exhibit strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. Additional Notes: The position offers a contract length of 7 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and the availability of funding after a successful completion of a 3-month probationary period. The role is classified as Band I, which is non-managerial. The designated duty station is Dnipro, with regular travel to field locations required.
