Job Overview:
The Specialist Course Instructor will play a crucial role in delivering a training session as part of a project aimed at enhancing municipal resilience in Rio de Janeiro. This position involves designing and developing training materials, preparing presentations, and delivering a session focused on integrated territorial planning strategies. The instructor will ensure that the training is pedagogically sound and aligned with the objectives of the project, which seeks to strengthen the capacities of public officials in addressing climate risks and implementing effective urban planning policies. The course will consist of nine virtual sessions, and the instructor will be responsible for engaging participants and facilitating knowledge transfer during their assigned session.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Specialist Course Instructor will be responsible for the following duties: 1) Design and develop training materials that are technically accurate and pedagogically coherent. 2) Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that aligns with the validated lesson plan. 3) Deliver the training session in coordination with UN-Habitat and the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, ensuring effective knowledge transfer. 4) Be flexible with scheduling, as the session date may change. 5) Conduct post-session follow-ups, providing written responses to unanswered questions. 6) Participate in alignment and monitoring meetings with UN-Habitat and government representatives. 7) Adhere to ethical principles in training delivery, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment. 8) Ensure compliance with UN-Habitat quality standards and project requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Architecture, Urbanism, Geography, Environmental Science, or Public Policies. A postgraduate degree in related fields is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have strong teaching skills, the ability to design participatory activities, and experience in capacity building within the public sector. Proficiency in Portuguese is mandatory, with knowledge of English and/or Spanish being advantageous.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Public Policies, or related fields is required. A postgraduate degree in relevant fields is desirable, along with additional years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirements.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of four years of professional experience in teaching or facilitating participatory processes in Brazil. Technical experience in territorial and environmental planning, as well as involvement in climate crisis research or adaptation projects, is required. Experience with multilevel climate policies and previous work within the UN System is considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is required for this position. Working knowledge of English and/or Spanish is desirable, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
This position is part-time (30%) with a total remuneration of BRL 5,00
  • The payment will be made in two installments upon delivery and approval of specified products. The appointment is on a local basis, and only nationals from Brazil or those with a permanent visa may apply. The contract's extension is contingent upon funding availability and performance.
