Job Overview: The role of Project Manager involves supporting the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of an integrated project funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in the regions of Turkana and Kilifi, Kenya. This project aims to enhance social accountability, promote sustainable livelihoods, and improve Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The Project Manager will be responsible for building the capacity of civil society groups and community networks, enabling them to advocate for equitable access to public services and lead sustainable, community-driven development initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed effectively and that the objectives are met within the specified timeframe. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the local context and the challenges faced by communities in these regions, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for the project's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Manager will be tasked with a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the FCDO-funded project, ensuring alignment with VSO's mission and objectives.
Developing and maintaining project work plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring that all activities are completed on schedule and within budget.
Monitoring project progress and outcomes, collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of interventions and make necessary adjustments.
Facilitating capacity-building workshops and training sessions for civil society groups and community networks to enhance their advocacy skills and knowledge of public service access.
Collaborating with local government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote accountability and transparency in public service delivery.
Preparing regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders.
Ensuring compliance with VSO's policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements, throughout the project lifecycle.
Engaging in continuous learning and sharing best practices with other project teams within VSO and the wider development community.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in project management, development studies, environmental science, public health, social sciences, or a related field. Additional knowledge in areas such as Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, or social accountability is highly desirable. The ideal applicant should demonstrate a commitment to VSO's values and mission, with a focus on empowering communities and fostering sustainable development. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, are essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in project management, development studies, environmental science, public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in the context of international development or humanitarian work. Experience working with civil society organizations, community networks, and local government entities is highly valued. Familiarity with FCDO-funded projects or similar donor-funded initiatives will be considered an asset, as it indicates an understanding of donor expectations and reporting requirements.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within VSO and with external stakeholders. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Turkana and Kilifi would be advantageous, as it would facilitate better engagement with community members and enhance the effectiveness of project implementation.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract lasting 6 months. The salary is classified under Birches grade BG-05, amounting to 1,770,10
