Job Overview:
The position of National Individual Consultant for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Expert under Long Term Agreement is designed to support UNDP's initiatives in promoting gender equality and social inclusion in Nepal. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and technical support to various projects and programs aimed at enhancing gender equality and social inclusion in the country. This role requires a deep understanding of the socio-economic context of Nepal, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups. The consultant will work closely with UNDP teams to develop strategies, implement initiatives, and monitor progress towards achieving gender equality and social inclusion goals. The assignment is expected to last from May 2026 to April 2029, indicating a long-term commitment to addressing these critical issues in Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National IC for GESI under LTA include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of gender equality and social inclusion issues in various sectors and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Developing and implementing strategies and action plans to promote gender equality and social inclusion in UNDP projects.
  • Collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to enhance their capacity to address gender and social inclusion issues.
  • Providing technical assistance and training to UNDP staff and partners on gender mainstreaming and social inclusion practices.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of gender equality initiatives and reporting on progress to stakeholders.
  • Engaging in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about gender equality and social inclusion at local, national, and international levels.
  • Preparing reports and documentation on GESI-related activities and outcomes for UNDP and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in gender studies, social sciences, or a related field. A proven track record of working on gender equality and social inclusion issues, particularly in the context of Nepal, is essential. The consultant should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with UNDP's policies and procedures, as well as experience in project management, will be considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of the socio-political landscape of Nepal and the challenges faced by marginalized groups.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced qualifications or certifications in gender equality and social inclusion will be an advantage. Continuous professional development in relevant areas is also encouraged.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience working on gender equality and social inclusion initiatives, preferably within the context of international development. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable. The consultant should have a proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results within tight deadlines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Nepali or other local languages is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time consultancy role under a Long Term Agreement (LTA) with UNDP. The contract duration is from May 2026 to April 2029, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The consultant will be expected to work remotely and may need to travel within Nepal as required for project implementation.
