Job Overview: The consultancy aims to enhance the capacity of UNICEF Tanzania staff and partners in designing, implementing, and monitoring Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) interventions that yield measurable behavioral outcomes using the COMBI (Communication for Behavioural Impact) planning methodology. The consultant will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership and facilitation across various components, including inception and training design, virtual pre-session, in-country training delivery, applied components, and post-training coaching and reporting. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the interventions are effectively tailored to meet the needs of the target populations and that the outcomes are aligned with UNICEF's mission to promote children's rights and well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of SBC interventions using the COMBI methodology.
Conduct training sessions for UNICEF staff and partners to enhance their understanding and application of SBC principles.
Facilitate virtual pre-sessions to prepare participants for in-country training.
Deliver in-country training that is interactive and tailored to the specific context of Tanzania.
Provide ongoing coaching and support to participants post-training to ensure the effective application of learned concepts.
Develop comprehensive reports on training outcomes and recommendations for future interventions.
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, government bodies, and community organizations, to ensure a multi-faceted approach to SBC.
Utilize strong analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of interventions and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Required Qualifications:
A PhD in Public Health, Behavioural/Social Sciences, Communication for Development, Social and Behaviour Change, Health Promotion, Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or related fields.
A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in SBC, RCCE, or related fields.
Proven experience in applying the COMBI methodology or similar behavioral planning approaches.
Demonstrated ability to deliver training and facilitate multi-stakeholder engagements effectively.
Strong expertise in behavioral planning and intervention design, with a focus on practical applications.
Excellent analytical and report writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a PhD in a relevant field such as Public Health, Behavioural/Social Sciences, Communication for Development, Social and Behaviour Change, Health Promotion, Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or related disciplines. This advanced educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the design and implementation of SBC interventions.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 8-10 years in relevant fields such as Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) and Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE). Candidates should have a proven track record of applying the COMBI methodology or similar behavioral planning approaches, as well as experience in delivering training and facilitating engagements with multiple stakeholders. This level of experience is crucial for ensuring that the consultant can provide the necessary technical leadership and support to UNICEF staff and partners.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF and for the documentation of training materials. Knowledge of Kiswahili is considered an added advantage, as it would facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the training sessions.
Additional Notes: The consultancy contract duration is set for 2 months, with a working arrangement that is primarily remote but includes a trip to Tanzania for in-country training delivery.
