Job Overview:
The SBC Retreat Consultant will play a crucial role in facilitating a five-day strategic retreat for the Social Behavior Change (SBC) team in Mozambique. This position requires the consultant to design and implement a participatory methodology that fosters collaboration and innovation among team members. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing relevant UNICEF program documents, facilitating discussions, and helping the team identify solutions to operational and strategic challenges. The ultimate goal is to develop a prioritized SBC strategic roadmap aligned with the CPD 2027–2030 framework, ensuring that the SBC work is effectively integrated into UNICEF's broader objectives. The consultant will also produce a strategic synthesis report that encapsulates the key recommendations and action roadmap derived from the retreat discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design the facilitation methodology and detailed agenda for the retreat.
  • Review relevant UNICEF program documents and strategic priorities to inform the retreat.
  • Facilitate the five-day retreat using participatory and collaborative approaches.
  • Support participants in identifying solutions to operational and strategic challenges.
  • Assist in the development of a prioritized SBC strategic roadmap aligned with CPD 2027–203
  • Consolidate retreat discussions into a Strategic Retreat Report with actionable recommendations.
  • Support the team in identifying strategies to strengthen SBC impact measurement, integration of behavioral insights into programs, SBC Emergency Preparedness & Response Framework, knowledge management, and resource mobilization.

Required Qualifications:
The consultant must possess strong writing, planning, and group facilitation skills, with expertise in methodologies such as design thinking, liberating structures, and systems thinking. A solid understanding of SBC principles and practices is essential, along with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively. The consultant should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's core values and principles, particularly in relation to child rights and safeguarding.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in social science, behavioral sciences, communication for development, sociology, anthropology, or social psychology is required for this position. A PhD is considered an asset, particularly for candidates with academic experience in relevant fields.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of experience working in the SBC field. This experience should include a proven track record of facilitating workshops and retreats, as well as a deep understanding of SBC strategies and their application in various contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the local context in Mozambique or the broader region.
